Stampin' Up! Convention Displays

One of my favorite things about Stampin' Up! Convention is the many, many displays.  Here, I've put several groups of photos together using My Digital Studio.  MDS makes it so easy to make a "collage" of my creative inspiration from Stampin' Up! Convention.

As you can see, the projects run the gamut from home decor to party favors to handmade cards to scrapbook pages to fabric projects and more!  Handmade beats store-bought in just about every category of life:)

Beautiful Season Christmas Card Class

Crosses of Hope-Stampin' Up!

Stampin' Up!'s Crosses of Hope stamp set has 3 different crosses, each lovely in its design, and the simple phrase "God bless you."  These simple images and phrase lend themselves to a host of craft projects, and this photo is part of a Stampin' Up! Convention display that I was admiring in the Hispanic section.

Crosses of Hope

Stampin' Up! has an entire catalog of Spanish stamps as well as full demonstrator support for Spanish speaking demonstrators.  I loved the Hispanic displays at Stampin' Up! Convention with their strong themes of family celebrations and faith.

The lighting is not great on these cards (sorry!), but I thought they were excellent handmade cards and wanted to share them with you.  My Spanish is very, very sketchy.  But it's enough to make out that the card on the right is for a First Communion, and I'm not sure what the one on the left says.  But I'm reminded again that although we may not share language, Christians share the love of Christ which knows no boundaries, and has ways of communication that stretch beyond words.

On Tuesday night, my husband and I (he is the senior pastor of Tower City Church) were privileged to host a group of Burmese Christians from the Zomi tribe.  Dr. Chin Do Kham is our friend and wanted to gather with the Zomi of San Antonio while he was here for a short time.  Thankfully, our church building was free, and so Buddy and I opened our building for them and got to sit in on their service.  Although we do not share language (even though my Spanish is very sketchy, it helps me with my Spanish-speaking friends:), we do share the love of Christ.  Several musicians were with Dr. Kham, and as they shared their music, singing of the wonders of the love of Jesus Christ, well...the language differences seemed to disappear.

Kim Pi gave her testimony of being one of 8 children.  Her Christian father asked the Lord for a family, as a single man, pledging that he would teach them all music and they would share the Gospel through song.  God gave him a wife and many children, and he taught them faithfully.  They went from village to village, on foot, sharing the Gospel in song all along the way.  Kim Pi shared that as a young girl, she was often hungry and tired as they traveled.  Her father would put her on his back and carry her.  As she grew up and her musical gifts became more apparent, she still traveled from village to village, singing for Jesus.  Having earned her bachelor's degree in India, her dream was to study further in America.  She was denied by immigration 8 times and told the Lord that she would be content to sing in the villages and jungles of Myanmar.  But then the Lord opened the door for her to attend Oral Roberts University.  She now sings in many places, in 8 languages (!!!), with the voice of an angel and the heart of a sold-out, born-again believer who has sacrificed much for her Lord.  I was so touched by her story as well as her songs, delivered with great humility of spirit.

As I hugged her before she left, neither of us wanted to let go.  The Love of Christ Jesus is a powerful force, connecting us together in ways that go beyond culture and language.  It binds us together with glimpses of the joys of uninterrupted fellowship we will enjoy in eternity with the Lord Himself and with one another.  Come share a bit of that fellowship with us when you are in the San Antonio area.  Full information of Tower City Church is on our website towercitychurch.com, as well as some fantastic sermons that will feed your spirit and soul even as they teach you the ways of the Lord and encourage you in life.  Thanks so much for stopping by today and allowing me to share with you:)

Stampin' Up! Convention Swaps-Saturday Sample

For today's Saturday Sample, here is one of my many Stampin' Up! Convention Swaps, this one featuring the lovely Everything Eleanor stamp set.  I love its color scheme and simplicity of design.  Notice how many "layers" are on this card.  The layers are the various times you see cut pieces of card stock whether in punched images or pieces of cut card stock.  Lots of layers lend themselves to a more luxurious looking card, and I think this stamper made the grade with hers!

Reason to Smile Stamp Set 12 x 12 Scrapbook Layout

In my monthly San Antonio Scrapbook Club, this is the layout we made for July, keying off on the Reason to Smile stamp set, the Stampin' Up! special this month.  I really, really love the Reason to Smile stamp set!  Its images are just gorgeous, and here we used it to make our own custom background for this 12 x 12 layout.  Reason to Smile is the Stampin' Up! Special this month--you get it for just $5 with any order of $50 or more.  That means you can buy $50 in albums, adhesives, papers, etc., and then get this awesome stamp set for just $5.  Now that's a deal!  As you read on, I'll give you the supply list for this 12 x 12 layout we made in this month's San Antonio Scrapbook Club meeting.

Reason to Smile Scrapbook

For this 12 x 12 layout, I employed an all neutrals color scheme, and my theme is "memories."  While you could put many different types of photos in here, I was thinking, in particular, about black and white photos.  I find black and white photos a bit challenging to scrapbook as sometimes, lots of different colors can overwhelm the photos.  My scrapbooking "style" is all about the photos.  I believe scrapbooking should highlight and enhance my photos.  After all, that is what I am wanting to remember, not the amazing scrapbooking technique I just learned:)

I love scrapbooking with my Big Shot!  I never make scrapbook pages without Big Shot elements.  It just makes it so easy for me to create my own custom embellishments.  Here, I used a full Top Note--which can be a photo background or a journaling piece--as well as a 1/2 Top Note.  The 1/2 Top Notes, cut in either direction, make fabulous journaling pieces.  And I have used the Tasteful Trim Die so much.  Being able to cut 12" long pieces of beautiful trim makes scrapbooking in style a cinch:)

For this 12 x 12 layout, I opted for a small "title" signifying my theme.  Again, this puts the focus mainly on the photos.  My little "memories" flag is embossed in gold for bit of glimmer and shine while still keeping with my antiquey look.  I think it's just enough to give cohesion to my 12 x 12 layout, pulling both sides together.

The Vintage Faceted Buttons are perfect for my pages since they are vintagey!  These buttons can take on lots of different looks, but I particularly love that they are clear.  That makes them super-versatile.  I used just one for a subtle bit of light and shine.  Sometimes, less is more.

Stamps:  Reason to Smile set, Loving Thoughts set

Ink:  Basic Black, Crumb Cake Classic Stampin' Pads

Paper:  Very Vanilla, Soft Suede, Crumb Cake, Basic Black Card Stocks; First Edition, Comfort Cafe, and Neutrals Collection Designer Series Papers

Accessories:  Big Shot Die Cutting Machine, Tasteful Trim Die, Top Note Die; Scallop Trim Edge Punch, Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon, Vintage Faceted Buttons

My San Antonio Scrapbook Club starts a new round in September.  If you are in the area (some members travel to San Antonio from outlying areas for a morning of scrapbook fun), we meet on the 2nd Thursday of each month.  We make a 12 x 12 layout (2 pages) each month plus a 3D item like a favor box or bookmark or such.  The projects are FREE, and each member places a minimum $25 Stampin' Up! order.  Each member also takes her turn at being the "hostess" which simply means she gets $25 in free stuff!  Hostess dollars may be spent on anything at all in current Stampin' Up! catalogs.  Full information on my San Antonio Scrapbook Club can be found here (scroll down a bit to see the info about scrapbooking).  I hope you can join us!  We can't wait to stamp and scrap with you:)  You will have lots and lots of Reasons to Smile!

Patterned Party-Birthday Party Invitation

Patterned Party stamp set is the perfect fit for this birthday party invitation for my grandson's first birthday.  My daughter Tiffany (check out her blog:  handydandyhelper.blogspot.com) is preparing for Jonah's first birthday, and the party theme--yes, it's a home party!--is Golden Books.  Tiffany grew up with home birthday parties and is carrying on the tradition with her kids.  She wrote a great post about home birthday parties here.

Patterned Party
Tiffany's Golden Books theme is perfect for young children, girls or boys.  For this 5 x 7 invite, she downloaded the background image you see from another blog, printed it on Stampin' Up! gold card stock, and then added simple stamped images from the Patterned Party stamp set.  She wanted a bit of a retro feel for her invitations, and Patterned Party cooperated beautifully!  The lighting is not great in this photo--I was trying to capture the subtle shine of the gold card stock and fantastic glimmer of the Dazzling Details on the cake.  Alas, I fell a bit short:(

The number 1 at the top of the invite was cut out of scraps from the gold card stock base using the new Typeset Alphabet Bigz dies--which include numbers--and the Big Shot.  And of course, the shapes on the birthday party invitations are from the Labels Collection Framelits.  These shapes are super-popular, and it's easy to see why when you work with them.  They are so versatile, spanning ages and genders and styles, and I love that you have 6 different sizes to choose from and layer with:)  I love my Big Shot!  The silver sparkle on the birthday cake comes from the Silver Sparkle Dazzling Details in the new Holiday Catalog.  You can't actually order that until August 1, but being a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, I had preordered this fantastic little item (only $2.50!), so it was on my work table.  Tiffany was so chuffed to see all that glimmer and dazzling shine on her little birthday cake images!

I hope you are considering some handmade projects yourself.  You can browse and/or shop my online store here:  candystamps.stampinup.net.   Here is the list of supplies for Tiffany's birthday party invitation, complete with product numbers for easy searching in my online store.

Stamps:  Patterned Party set (123065 wood mount) (123067 clear mount)

Ink:  Early Espresso (126974) and Marina Mist (126962) Classic Stampin' Pads

Paper:  Brushed Gold(102935), Bashful Blue (105120), Marina Mist (119682) Card Stocks

Accessories:  Big Shot Die Cutting Machine (113439), Labels Collection Framelits (125598), Typeset Alphabet Bigz Dies (127553)

I'll be sharing more about Jonah's 1st home birthday party.  In the meantime, set your sights on making your own birthday party invitations, and let Patterned Party stamp set help you craft something that will appeal to anyone!  Call me at 210-355-5729 or email me with any questions.

Stampin' Up! Fabric Projects...Again!

Today I'm sharing more Stampin' Up! fabric projects by way of Artisan Award entries shown at Stampin' Up!  Stampin' Up! Fabric Projects

Convention.  Stampin' Up! has an Artisan Award that is given each year, and the entries were on display at Stampin' Up! Convention last week.  I think there were 6-8 winners, and each receives a hefty Stampin' Up! shopping spree as well as some fun "design assignments" to complete throughout the Stampin' Up! year, showcased on a special blog.  These ladies are so creative and talented.  Love their ideas!

Every single Stampin' Up! fabric project on this display is stinkin' cute!  Love the mini ironing board!  Wouldn't that be cute in the laundry room?!  I mean, it might even make folding laundry somewhat enjoyable:)  The artist took clothespins and covered them with the gorgeous pleated satin ribbon that was in the Occasions Mini Catalog earlier this year.  So pretty!

Stampin' Up! Fabric Projects
I love the fact that every single Stampin' Up! fabric comes in a set of fat quarters.  That means that we get this gorgeous coordination of colors and patterns.  Look at the way it all just goes together!

Being a Gramma, I love the dressed up kids clothes.  This is such a cute way to dress up a plain white top.   Stampin' Up! Fabric Project
My daughter has been making some darling Stampin' Up! fabric projects for my granddaughter Olivia.  I posted pics here, and there are more to come very soon!  Tiffany has a great blog (Handy Dandy Helper) where she posts about life and being a young mom.  She has caught the sewing bug in a big way, so she has lots of plans in that direction, and I am cheering her on.

I don't know about you, but Tiffany's and my time is at a premium, and the last thing we need is to spend 3 hours in JoAnn Fabrics tracking down fabrics that coordinate with one another.  With that kind of time investment, even simple projects become very labor-intensive.  At my stage of life--and at Tiffany's (kinda opposite ends of the child-rearing continuum:), we are looking for quick and easy.  Now just because we want quick and easy does NOT mean we want something that looks slapped together.  Quite the opposite!  Our standards are high:  We want quick and easy AND gorgeous:)

Seem like a tall order?  Stampin' Up! to the rescue! Whether it's beautifully coordinated papercrafting products that make my scrapbook pages and handmade cards come together in a snap or beautifully coordinated fabrics, Stampin' Up! brings me the solutions I need.  Check out my online store, candystamps.stampinup.net, to do some window shopping and see for yourself the incredible product coordination that is the hallmark of Stampin' Up!.
