Simple Sympathy Card with Inspired Thoughts for Sunday

inspiredthoughtsstampinupsympathycardcandyrattray

Today's share is one of the cards in my upcoming 8-card Class by Mail.  I keep hearing from my friends how much they are needing handmade sympathy cards and get well cards.  I'm having the same experience, so I decided to pair Inspired Thoughts with Flowering Fields Designer Series Paper for a set of cards that can be customized with your greeting of choice.

Inspired Thoughts has a lovely, clean, modern font with 11 cling rubber stamps.  That gives me lots of choices that can easily go feminine or masculine, celebratory or sober, casual or classy.  Add in the versatility of Flowering Fields DSP and you have a bevy of choices!  At first look Flowering Fields DSP is all about those gorgeous tulips.  But turn over the paper and you will be treated to some lovely watercolor wash images as well as some ethereal designs with clouds.

Be sure to check out the details of my Card Class by Mail for March.

Stack, Cut, & Shuffle Technique for Card-Makers

expressionsininkartisticallyinkedstampinupcandyrattrayI have been in love with Stack, Cut, & Shuffle technique ever since I first tried it several months ago.  Any level of card-maker can easily do this technique--no previous experience necessary.  You can see a previous post I wrote with another Stack, Cut, & Shuffle Card idea here.  I love how you can dress it up or down depending on the Designer Series Paper.

The key to success is to use 4 contrasting pieces of a set of Designer Series Paper that have small patterns.  You can see my process on the video below.  It's really simple.  Just stack your 4 pieces of 5-1/4" x 4", cut, and shuffle.  It's super fun and a great way to design as well as use up DSP.  Be sure to click on the video below to see exactly how to do Stack, Cut, & Shuffle Technique for Card-Makers.

I ran this as a Creative Challenge in my Southern Sweet Stampers Demonstrator Facebook Group where we run 3 challenges per month that any team member can enter.  It's a drawing, and each entry earns a ticket.  There are prizes, of course!  Stack, Cut, & Shuffle challenge had huge participation, and I love that my team members keep on using this super fun stamping technique.  Click here to learn more about joining my Stamping Family!

There is just one week left of Sale-a-Bration and you don't want to miss out on the amazing free products you can earn with $50 and $100 orders.  Order Expressions in Ink DSP and Artistic Dies shown here (total $50) to earn a free SAB item and recreate this card.  You will have supplies to create many more Stack, Cut, & Shuffle cards.  Change out the card base and cardstock flag to change the look for even more variety.

How to Make a Simple Card for Sympathy or Birthday #simplestamping

amazingsilhouettesfreshfreesiastampinupcandyrattrayEach week I  stampinupcolorcombobring #simplestamping to my Facebook Live audience and love the challenge of using just the basics of stamping--stamps, ink, paper--to my design work.  #simplestamping is perfect for beginner card makers as well as us avid crafters.

My starting place was Amazing Silhouettes stamp set which stands alone even though there is a bundle option.  The dies also stand alone.  But if you like them both, I totally recommend taking advantage of the bundle option so you get the 10% savings.

Because Amazing Silhouettes Bundle is such a great option, I've listed and linked it below for your convenience.  At $44 so it's perfect for earning a Sale-a-Bration reward.  Add just a $6 item to your order to get something free!

I love the artsy look of Amazing Silhouettes.  You get a lot of impact from just inking up and stamping.  I chose the butterfly stamp as it's perfect for a sympathy card.  My color palette of 3 purples was perfect to use the same basic elements for a simple sympathy card and then add a few things to transition into a simple, elegant birthday card.  I almost always make at least 2 cards at once.  If everything is out and ready, why not???!!!  Then I'm ready for just about any occasion:)

The other key element of my beginner cards is a "trifecta" of purples!  I love the look of these 3 purples together.  The look is rich, elegant, deep yet not dark.  Try it!

Check out my pair of super simple cards made with Crane of Fortune suite of products.  I love this suite and included all but the ribbon in these simple cards.  Crane of Fortune is extremely versatile running the gamut from super fancy to simple.  Click here to see another Crane of Fortune card and be sure to click on my video below to see 8 different cards i created for my monthly class by mail in January.

For my simple cards I let the Symbols of Fortune Designer Series Paper plus Heart & Home Doilies do the "heavy lifting" of design work.  That also allowed my greeting to really shine.  Small pieces of the gorgeous dies provided just enough embellishment and interest.  Simple, classy, done!

Masculine Fun Fold Card Featuring Hey Sports Fan DSP

Blog Hop-Trip AchieversWelcome to the Trip Achievers Blog Hop where achieving demonstrators from across the globe join together to inspire YOU with awesome projects and creativity.  You are at Candy Rattray, sweetstamper.com and the full list of achieving demonstrators participating in this hop is at the very bottom of this post.  I'm so glad you're here!

I have a fun fold card for you today that was part of my recent Paper Party.  What's a Paper Party?  It's an online event that includes a new product share (Mini Catalog Designer Series Paper and Ribbons).  Check out the information about that here and save the date for my next one:  June 18th when I'll be teaming up with Karina once again to showcase the new annual catalog  products.

heysportsfandesignerseriespaperstampinmasculinecardfunfoldOkay, let's take a look at this fun fold card for the guys.  The card on the left is my original and the card on the right is the one I made for demonstration during our online event.  I wanted to show how you can change it up with other papers for a slightly different--but equally appealing--look.  I do love this suite of products!

Personally, I won't be getting the bundle.  I don't need that much baseball in my life--LOL!  If I were scrapbooking Little League years or had family that were huge baseball fans that would be different.  But for me, just the Hey Sports Fan DSP, Fan Bakers Twine, and Resin Stars are a perfect fit.  And I think the twine is my favorite item in the suite, but the DSP and stars are super versatile as well:)

heysportsfandesignerseriespaperstampinmasculinecardfunfoldThe DSP is perfect for having cute pennants, tickets, and other game paraphernalia that make terrific cut-outs to personalize your masculine fun fold cards.

In my first version of this card I focused on the Crushed Curry piece of DSP with the stars.  For the second version--just to show how easy it is to change up the look--I focused on the Poppy Parade stripe piece of DSP.  Which one is your fave?  Tell me in the comments, please!

Beginner Card with Sentimental Swirls, #simplestamping

sentimentalswirlsstampinupcandyrattraybeginnercardmaker
Today I'm sharing one of 4 cards I created for my most recent FREE online card class.  I'm on Session 3 in a series of 4 classes of birthday cards all featuring the same 4 stamp sets.  I make one card during each session from my selection of stamp sets:

  1. Sentimental Swirls
  2. For the Record
  3. Artfully Layered
  4. Friendly Hello (Sale-a-Bration)

I'm focusing on birthday cards as most of us need to build our stash now to be prepared for a year of celebrating birthdays.  But each of these handmade cards could easily become another type card by simply switching out the greeting.

My beginner card with Sentimental Swirls, #simplestamping, is perfect for new card-makers, but it is also super fun for us avid crafters!  Sentimental Swirls stamp set has so many stamps--and they are fun to use!

For my color scheme, I totally keyed off the Hand-Penned Memories & More Cards & Envelopes which are a real bargain at $10 for 20 pre-scored and printed cards and envelopes!  They make quick work of a stack of cards for my stash. stampinupcolorcomboincolors

Watch my video demonstration below--Sentimental Swirls is the first stamp set I used in the video.  Then check out my SMALL supply list!  I love the challenge of #simplestamping to see what I can make with just a few supplies focusing on stamps, ink, and paper.

Super Simple Sympathy Card Idea, #simplestamping

#simplestamping is a challenge Stampin' Up! runs every month highlighting the basics of stamping:  stamps, ink, and paper.  It's where we all begin and is perfect for beginner card makers.  I love the simplicity of #simplestamping as well as the challenge of working with a basic set of supplies to achieve a beautiful handmade card.  This month, #simplestamping is

  • Stamps
  • Ink
  • Paper
  • Punch
  • Love/Sympathy Theme

I created the simple sympathy card, shown in the video above, for my weekly Facebook Live on Thursdays at 4PM CT where I focus on Simple & Stepped Up stamping.  (I do run free online classes from time to time and they take over this time slot, pre-empting Simple & Stepped Up Stamping on occasion.)

RanunculusromancestampinupcandyrattrayRanunculus Romance is a perfect stamp set for beginner card makers.  Although there is a set of coordinating dies--which are lovely--you can do a LOT with the stamp set alone.  Click here to see another card I made with Ranunculus Romance which incorporates some of the dies.  Here are a few things that make my simple sympathy card work:

  • There are many stamps in Ranunculus Romance that work perfectly for a collage-type background.
  • I made a cardstock ribbon knot which is a perfect thing to do when you don't have ribbon in the color you want!  Watch the video above to see how!
  • My color scheme is mostly neutral with just a hint of Rich Razzleberry.

All Stampin' Up! products are listed and linked below for your convenience. Please follow me on YouTube and Facebook for twice weekly live demonstrations and plenty of crafty inspiration!
